Not that I have a desire to change careers, but I took the Career Test at Emode, inspired by Bluetterfly. The results are a tad surprising but I've always dreamed how I'd love to be a veterinarian. But a nurse or pediatrician? No thanks. (if it would have said Midwife, then yes!) Party planner? No thanks. Teacher or professor? A big maybe.

Mel, you're a Teacher

You're the sort of person that people think of fondly, when remembering who helped make a difference in their lives. Your stellar interpersonal skills and compassionate ear for the troubles and life experiences of others makes you a godsend when the going gets tough. And since you're especially smooth at managing responsibility, your listening skills and wisdom are their sharpest when you're in a position of authority. Consider yourself the soul doctor to the world—it's your true work personality.

Who's like you: Florence Nightingale

Likely careers: Nurse, pediatrician, veterinarian, party planner, teacher, professor

How you rate: Motivation: 3 (slacker) Conflict style: 7 (negotiator) Leadership style: 5 (catalyst)

We went to the zoo yesterday and thankfully no bad experiences like at Ocean Journey. The only thing that made us sad is that elephants' enclosure seems oh so very small and they have no shade. I had a good time though. I met up with a new friend from a mailing list I belong to. Her daughter will be three in November. I was so amazed. She is potty trained and speaking in full sentences. When I think ahead to Brenna doing that in 9 months it blows me away.

The other night I was fairly certain I saw a tiny baby bird head poking up out of that nest in our hanging planter on the front porch. So today while the mama bird flew away somewhere, I went out and stood on a patio chair to get a better glimpse. I made it extremely quick and pulled the planter down just a tad so I could look down inside. I counted at least three baby birds, could be more as they were all huddled so close together. They are so adorable. They appear to be barely two inches long, blind still and covered in soft gray fuzz. The beauty of nature astounds me. It makes all the really crappy things that have happened in my life this past week seem not so important in the grand scheme of things.

I live near Denver and there is an aquarium called Ocean Journey. Recently added is a bird exhibit called Outback Adventure. It's inside a big building all open on the inside. Hundreds of parakeets are flying loose everywhere, along with many cockatiels, and a handful of small parrot species which I weren't sure what they were. They also had two baby emus, and several cages of bourkes parakeets on display. Anyway, I was disturbed by this spectacle, at first not really sure why since I love birds and was so looking forward to going there. But then not one, not two, but three of the employees were going around warning everyone to watch where they step because two birds had been stepped on and injured or killed earlier today. :-( And then I realized that the place was really too crowded with maybe 50 people or more milling about including many young children who really can't be trusted to be that careful. You could also buy millet on a stick to feed the birds, and get them to come to you for handling. But nowhere in site were places to wash your hands or anything. Birds pick up germs and disease easily. I don't know, the whole place just gave me a horrible vibe. I'm thinking of complaining to Ocean Journey, probably won't do much but I might feel better.

I went ahead and ordered a webcam off Ebay for only $21 including shipping. The Logitech Quickcam Express is probably the cheapest webcam out there and not rated very high but I wasn't picky and basically wanted something I could buy right NOW and play with. I'll add a more expensive one to my Wish List. Heh.

Man, this is probably the saddest thing I've read in a long time. As my regular blog readers know, I have been very curious about what happened to the real life "boy in the bubble". It is nothing like what the tv movie portrayed and his name wasn't Tod Lubitch but David Vetter. Thanks so much for the link, Trudee.

It sucks to wake up, login to check email and discover your inbox is corrupted and all old mails deleted. What a way to start the day. Blech.

I went to hook up my webcam today and found out the hard way that it's not compatible with Windows 2000. It's only four years old.....go figure. LOL I'm so bummed because here I was all set to do something fun for a change. I feel like I haven't had fun in awhile here. It's been nothing but work and stress around here for a long time. So anyway, I went to buy.com and amazon.com looking at new webcams and am rather clueless on what to buy. Seems like the Logitech ones are pretty good. If anyone can clue me in, I'd appreciate it.

I've been playing Lemonade Stand constantly thanks to Dreama. *groan*

Well, what do you know. Someone came at 7:30 a.m. to pick up that scrap lumber mess. I just feel bad that I had to bitch like a banshee to get someone out here. No regrets though. I usually try to be a really nice, easygoing and fair person but then every once in awhile I need to get some aggression out and I feel so much better for doing so. Today the landscaping is supposed to begin but so far there is no sign of them. 10:30 and counting....

I absolutely adore the new look and name of Life in a Northern Town. (formerly Periwinkle Haze)

It's been a particularly boring holiday weekend. What a huge disappointment it's been. Didn't go anywhere, didn't do anything, didn't visit anyone and didn't even really spend good quality family time together unless sitting around the house counts. Bleh. To top things off, I'm feeling a bit deceived by a friend and I fell and hurt myself while moving scrap lumber out of the backyard. Wood scraps that have been sitting there over a good week that should have been cleaned up by the contractors. We didn't even want to move it at all but the landscapers come tomorrow to begin their work so we had no choice. After I fell I got extremely enraged and stormed into the house to call the contractors (again) to demand they come and pick up their mess. I was not very nice, to say the least. The secretary told me not to be so agitated. Well, fuck that. I shouldn't have had to spend my holiday picking up wood, falling and scraping the hell out of my leg and waiting for people who never come to clean up their mess including pop cans, fast food bags, etc. I'm not their fucking maid. Harumph. Some people are total assholes. I needed to vent and thank goodness for my blog. Now back to your regularly scheduled program. (and oh boy, I can just see my referral logs after this entry, LOL)
